Ground Freezing

What is Ground Freezing?

Ground Freezing

Ground freezing is a technique that converts water to ice in the ground to temporary create water cuts walls and stabilize the ground.

Advantage of ground freezing

  • Strength of up to 10MN/m² and has perfect water cut-off
(Chemical Grouting < Jet Grouting <Ground Freezing)
  • No chemicals or cements are used for stabilization, so nothing will be left after the construction is done.
  • Can be applied in any soils, as long as there are moisture.
  • Quality of frozen soil can be managed in real-time by temperature.

Our ground freezing technique

ICECRETE®

A ground freezing technique that uses natural refrigerants and without freon

Feature

New refrigerant CO₂ and NH₃

New refrigerant CO₂ and NH₃

  • Better thermal efficiency than brine and freon, because it uses both “sensible heat”  and “latent heat of vaporization”
  • CO₂ and NH₃ are all natural refrigerants
  • CO₂ has low viscosity which reduce friction
    • Reduce pipe diameter → Improve work efficiency
    • Reduce pump size → Reduce power consumption by approx. 60%
New freezing pipe: IC channel

New freezing pipe: IC channel

  • Easy to install (can be installed by insertion only)
  • Light in weight (0.3kg/m)
  • Excellent thermal conductivity
⇒Reduce construction period and cost, and improves overall efficiency

Our Specialty

  • We have track record reducing 40 days of construction duration using our new freezing method compared to conventional brine method; and reduced 20% of constructing costs.
  • We have experience in ground freezing technique and have been used in many great depth shield tunnel projects.
