The Asahikawa Tokachi Road is a regional high-standard road extending 120km, connecting Asahikawa City to Shimukappu Village. The Kita-no-Mine Tunnel, located near Furano City, passes through an alluvial fan at the foothills of the Yubari Mountains which has a length of approximately 3 km.

Due to the abundant water resources in the area, measures were taken to consider the impact on the surrounding hydrological environment, leading to the adoption of a non-drainage structure and chemical grouting for water stop.
