On April 14, 2016, the Kumamoto Earthquake caused severe damage to the Kiyamagawa Bridge, which spans the section of the Kyushu Expressway between the Mashiki-Kumamoto Airport Interchange and the Matsubase Interchange, located near the earthquake’s epicenter. The damaged Kyushu Expressway was an important arterial road, and the lower part of Kiyamagawabashi Bridge was supported with BH piles  (780m road, 300 bearing piles), and vehicles were allowed to drive with the speed limit of 50km/h during May.

The construction was held with total of 90 people by assembling 10 sets of equipment and 17 construction team from all over Japan during consecutive holidays. It successfully complete the construction by the target month which was May. Subsequently, temporary support vents were installed, and the main restoration work was carried out, leading to the full restoration of the four-lane road which lies between the Mashiki Kumamoto Airport IC and the Matsuhashi IC by 28th April 2017.
